The list of failed LTA Projects is long.  In many cases, the causes of failure have been linked to lack of finance; starting a project without sufficient funding to see it through,  in-sufficient funding to overcome unforseen technical challenges, or mis-spending the available funding.

A21 - Dynamic Response and Controls of Airship for Cruising, Busan National University, Gust effects

To acquire the dynamic response and design the controller of the airship, the longitudinal motion of the airship, which is a nonlinear system, with respect to the vertical gust have been studied. The effects of the apparent mass and moment of the airship delay the dynamic response and the settling time, which are slower than those of conventional airplanes. This airship is designed to cruise at 500 ~ 1000m altitude. At that altitude, the atmospheric conditions are generally unstable due to wind gusts.
