Zeppelin NT SN02 set out from Friedrichshafen on 17 May at the start of a 20 week research programme to study atmospheric pollutants. Project PEGASOS will take the Zeppelin to the Netherlands, Italy and in 2013 Finland. In the photograph below, the ship is seen performing for the media at her Friedrichshafen base. The Royal Aeronautical Society will announce the 9th International Airship Convention on their website. The conference news will be included on the RAeS supported events section online and the news published online via their news section.
Assembly of the M1400, the largest airship in the world, continues at a fast pace in Weeksville, North Carolina. But even as the ship nears it first flight, the programme is in jeopardy. Full details in the June issue of AIRSHIP.
Airship Ventures Zeppelin NT EUREKA was used by NASA and SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) as part of the hunt for parts of the Sutter's Mill Meteorite in Northern California. The large meteorite, which was about the size of a mini-van, fell to earth on the morning of 22nd of April and was clearly seen in the daylight sky from Las Vegas, NV to Sacramento, CA.

The Airship Association conference this June will be truly international with 36 papers submitted from 13 countries: Argentina, Canada, China, Ecuador, France, Germany, India, Italy, Mexico, Russia, Spain, UK and the USA.
It's important to be aware that there are distinctions between pure gaseous helium, pure liquid helium and impure gaseous helium. Pure gaseous helium has a number of important applications including analysis, diving and medical gases and specialist manufacturing processes.
The Airship Association will hold its Annual General Meeting at the Victory Services Club in London on Tuesday 24th April 2012. The doors will open at 18:00 hrs (6pm), and the formal meeting will start at 18:30. For directions to the Victory Services Club, please see www.vsc.co.uk .

The Zeppelin airship flight season in Germany started on the 24th of March 2012, and according to Mr Thomas Brandt, Chief Executive of Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik, flights for this year are fully booked, including reservations for on-board weddings.
We reported in the June 2011 Edition of the Airship Journal that the assets of Airship Management Services(AMS), the company of the late George Spyrou, had been acquired by SkyShip Services Inc. of Weeksville, North Carolina. Skyship Services Inc. is affiliated with the international businessman, Mr Julian Benscher, who has had previous experience with the Sykship series of airships, operating Skyships as Airship Operations Inc.
The Airship Association is supporting Rob Knotts at a STEM Event in Oldham on 30 June 2016, where he will run a stand to introduce LTA to school-children. LTA covers a range of scientific principles, which can be put into practice at a model scale, but which also provides some un-expected challenges.
Mr Don Cameron of Cameron Balloons has agreed to take over the role of President of the Airship Association on the retirement of Dr Bernd Straeter. Dr Straeter has held the position since 2010, and had been very active in his support of the Association, and particuarly supportive with the bi-annual conferences.
