MZ-3A Florida Operations Report

The US Navy MZ-3A airship has successfully completed surveillance trials in Florida. ISSI, who operate the airship on behalf of the Navy, provided the following report to the Airship Association. More details will appear in the next issue of AIRSHIP.

NEW A150 LAUNCHED

 

Van Wagner Airships has launched a new A150 airship as part of the promotional campaign for the upcoming movie ‘Despicable Me 2’. The airship was inflated, and the decals applied, in the south hangar at Tustin, California. The tour will take the airship across country to Florida and then north to New York. HAV TO REQUEST LEMV FROM US ARMY

HAV will officially request to take ownership of the LEMV from the US Army now that the program has been cancelled. It is understood that the vehicle would otherwise be dismantteld within the near future.

Although the LEMV design differs somewhat from the 'AIRLANDER' cargo version, it could still be used to demonstrate the hybrid concept.

Skyship 600 Set to Head to Alaska

More details have been released about the deployment of the SK600 being assembled and inflated by Skyship Services. The following is from the Alaska Dispatch:

 

It’s a bird, it’s a plane – no wait, it’s a blimp! For the first time since the 1920s, a modern day airship will travel to Alaska this summer to conduct field work and show off its potential for becoming a permanent fixture in Alaska’s skies.

Transportation Command Chief Eyes Airships

Air Force Gen. William Fraser III, Commander of U.S. Transportation Command, told a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee today that hybrid airships have the potential to tote a lot more cargo than a ship, faster than the command’s conventional cargo aircraft, such as the C-17.
