Model Airship Regatta - Towers School Ashford 23rd June 2012

The Airship Association will hold a Model Airship Regatta incorporating a weight-lifting Competition in conjunction with their 9th Biennial International Airship Convention & Exhibition at the Ashford International Hotel, Ashford, Kent in South East England from 20th to 23rd June 2012.

The Model Regatta will be held at the nearby Towers School, Kennington Road, Ashford, Kent TN24 9AL on Saturday, 23rd June 2012, the morning after the convention concludes.

The competition will take the form of a series of races around a `figure of eight' course intended to drive the design of fast manoeuvrable airship models. A prize of £200 for the winner, £150 for second place and £100 for third place will be awarded. Helium will be provided.

In addition to the race there will be an additional simple weight lifting competition with a prize of £100, which it is hoped will be a catalyst for more sophisticated tasks in future competitions.

It is planned to expand the competition as a standalone event in the future and to include more complex and technically challenging engineering tasks such as cargo exchange and automatic mooring. It is hoped also to attract sponsorship by making it an interesting event for spectators to attend. Educational establishments will be invited to compete, and it is hoped that by attracting sponsorship very much higher monetary prizes can be awarded at future competitions.
