Presentation by Northrop Grumman to the Royal Navy

A meeting is reported to have taken place recently between Northrop Grumman and UK Ministry of Defence, to inform the Royal Navy about the potential of Hybrid Airships in a maritime role.

Subsequently, a news item appeared on the website of the British newspaper The Telegraph on the 13th of February 2012 suggesting that “A new generation of British-built airships may be bought by the Royal Navy to resupply ships, following their use by the US army on the front line in Afghanistan”. The airship referred to in the article is the Long Endurance Multi-Intelligence Vehicle (LEMV) designed by the British Company Hybrid Air Vehicles and being built by the US company Northrop Grumman. The article in the Telegraph prompted the MOD to issue a denial through an associated web-site. Defencemanagement.com has stated “The Ministry of Defence has denied that it plans to purchase military airships from Northrop Grumman after reports suggested the navy was considering the new technology for intelligence gathering and logistics roles.”
