The US Navy MZ-3A airship has successfully completed surveillance trials in Florida. ISSI, who operate the airship on behalf of the Navy, provided the following report to the Airship Association. More details will appear in the next issue of AIRSHIP.
The MZ-3A was configured with 4 C4ISR sensors that were utilized during the events. The ship launched out of Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport and deployed off the coast of the Mayport NAS / Jacksonville, FL area. The Navy, Airport, and local officials were very enthusiastic about the exercise, we could not have been treated better.
The ship was very successful in providing an accommodating, affordable, persistence, surveillance platform for deployment and operation of the sensors. The crew was heavily involved in installation, integration, and operations of the equipment.
