TWO MORE SAD ANNOUNCEMENTS
Following the announcments on this page recently that both our President, Sir John Gingell, and our most senior Vice President, Larry Richards had died, we now learn of two more sad and untimely deaths - both great losses to the world of modern airships.
Roger Munk
Roger Munk, designer of the Skyship, Sentinel and Skycat families of airships, as well as initiator of several other airship designs and leader of a series of British airship companies from Aerospace Developments through Airship Industries, Advanced Technologies Group to the current Hybrid Air Vehicles, died suddenly on 21st February 2010. He will be sorely missed by many who greatly valued the impetus he brought to the revived airship industry from its onset in the 1970s until today and was widely recognized as a leader in his field.
A press obituary appears here.
George Spyrou
On 27th Feburary 2010, George Spyrou of Airship Management Services, a former colleague of Roger Munk, long-term operator of Skyship airships and Type Certificate owner for the Skyship and Sentinel designs, also died from a long term illness. George brought enthusiasm, romance and sustainability into the operation of airships over many years. He too will be sorely missed.
A press obituary appears at here.
The Airship Association can speak for our entire community by saying that our thoughts are with their families at this time of great loss. An era has drawn to a close in the development and operation of airships. We can best honour their memories by bringing modern airships to the level of success that they deserve.
NEW
AIRSHIP ASSOCIATION CONNECTION ON 'LinkedIn.com'
For members of The Airship Association who are also members of the professional networking site, LinkedIn.com, there is now a dedicated group that they may join. The site offers an opportunity for our members to spread the word about the activities of The Airship Association by displaying our logo alongside their LinkedIn profile. The group is also encouraging new members to join The Airship Association and providing a forum in which prospective members may ask questions to current members. With some 40 professionals in the group so far, and with the support of Council, the group has got off to a promising start. It is even trying to encourage regional sub-groups or 'chapters', which it hopes will develop further as membership grows.

innovative and informative web-site the very best of continuing
success. The Airshipworld
Blogspot is not operated by the Airship Association but is a
personal effort by a very good friend of the Airship Association.
